Recent footage captured the arrest of Mexico’s boxer, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 39, as he was taken into custody earlier this week. A video shared by Fox 11 Los Angeles reveals the details of this incident.
Chavez Jr., who is married to a U.S. citizen, reportedly faces “quick removal” from the United States. Authorities allege that he has ties to the Sinaloa Cartel and is under investigation for organized crime and human trafficking, involving firearms, ammunition, and explosives in Mexico.

According to Chavez Jr.’s lawyer, Michael Goldstein, the arrest took place while he was riding a scooter outside Studio City. His manager, Sean Gibbons, mentioned they are “working on a few things” regarding the situation.
“They blocked his street and took him without him knowing where he was,” Goldstein stated. He described the operation as involving around 25 agents and officials. “The current allegations are outrageous and seem mostly meant to instill fear within the community. Chavez isn’t a threat to anyone,” he added.
The Department of Homeland Security noted that Chavez Jr. applied for legal permanent residency back in April 2024. However, they assert that “multiple fraudulent statements” have come to light, particularly concerning his wife, Frida Munoz, whose past relationships have raised suspicions about ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.
ICE was alerted last December about Chavez Jr. being a potential “public safety threat,” but at the time, the Biden administration did not prioritize him for immigration enforcement. According to DHS, he was classified as “removable” on June 27 due to these recent findings.
The Sinaloa Cartel has been labeled a “foreign terrorist organization” since the Trump administration. In sports context, Chavez Jr., whose father is a boxing legend, recently lost to Paul in a unanimous decision, marking his second fight since 2021.
