Your daily morning coffee doesn’t have to be just black coffee.
Instead, some people seem to be having a blast with the latest drinks trend taking social media by storm.
Instead of simply adding chocolate to coffee, social media users are pouring it into the inside of a cup, freezing it and squeezing, or rather “snapping”, it into a cup.

Cracking lattes not only add a unique look to a cup of coffee, but they also give drinkers a little something to look forward to before sipping on their energizing coffee.
Many people have tried cracking lattes, some of whom say they love the look of the drink, while others feel it’s just for looks rather than any real flavor enhancement.

Melody, a TikTok user who goes by the handle @mmyymelodyy and lives in Seattle, Washington (she is withholding her last name for privacy reasons), first saw the latte in question online and decided to research the drink.
She told Fox News Digital that she believes the bagel was first made in Singapore at a cafe called “B for Bagel.”

Melody was intrigued by the drink and decided to try it at home.
“[Start] Make this latte [by] “Put your chocolate chips of choice in a bowl and melt them in the microwave, 15 seconds, 20 seconds, twice,” she said.
“Then I mixed it with a spoon and spread it into a plastic cup with a spoon. I covered the cup tightly with the melted chocolate and spread it evenly. I placed the cup in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes to let the chocolate harden.”
The aesthetic aspect adds value to the experience of enjoying a cup of coffee.
“I then took it out of the freezer and started making my latte. I added ice, six ounces of milk, and a double shot of espresso. I put the lid on the cup and started to gently press the cup to break up the hardened chocolate.”
Swedish candy goes viral on TikTok, and everyone wants a bite of the trendy treat
Melody said she didn’t chill her first two lattes enough in the freezer, so it took her three tries before she was able to photograph her third latte.
She said the aesthetic aspect “enhances the experience” of enjoying coffee.
After she posted the video, many users were keen to try it, but some thought the drink was too much work with little added flavour benefit.

“I like the idea but the chocolate basically serves no purpose. It just stops the chocolate from dissolving in the drink since the drink is also cold,” one user commented on another TikTok video posted by @espressoyourselfx3.
“Am I the only one who doesn’t get this? Once the drink is gone the chocolate just stays in the cup,” wrote another.
Coffee vs. Matcha: What does your morning drink choice say about you?
Another TikTok user, @steffanietran, shared her own version of the drink, adding strawberry chocolate to the crackle exterior and opting for matcha instead of espresso.
After trying out the trend, she responded to the comments, writing, “It doesn’t taste any different, it’s just that the chocolate is in the way… purely for looks and fun.”
She decided to give the trend another go and created two versions: a cracking latte with espresso and another, again with matcha.

Jasmine (last name omitted) successfully tested the buzzy drink and shared some tips for making the perfect crack.
“The recipe for chocolate crackle cups calls for 1/4 cup chocolate chips (I use semi-sweet) and 1 tablespoon coconut oil. Combine ingredients in a bowl and melt in a microwave-safe bowl for 20 seconds, stirring,” she said.

“Put it back in the microwave for another 20 seconds and stir until smooth.”
She then said, “Spread the chocolate on the inside of a plastic cup, covering the entire inside of the cup, and freeze the entire cup for 5-10 minutes, or longer if needed. The chocolate should be completely set on top of the cup.”

“Follow the instructions to help your chocolate melt and set in the cup to create the perfect crackle sound. And when pouring into your Chocolate Crackle Cup, don’t fill it all the way to the top — leave a little space so your drink doesn’t spill when you squeeze the cup to create the crackle sound.”
Jasmine finds that chocolate works best when poured over ice, as it can start to melt.
