In a wild scene Friday night, someone stole a Maryland Department of Transportation tow truck and led police on a nail-biting car chase that left more than a dozen vehicles damaged.
Troopers from Maryland State Police University Park were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash involving four vehicles on the inner loop of Interstate 495 near the Greenbelt Metro Station, Maryland State Police said.
Maryland State Police troopers investigating the car crash noticed that the driver of the Ford Ranger had fled the scene of the crash. The ranger drove to a park-and-ride parking lot, where a pickup truck struck a guardrail and ran off the road.
WUSA “As a State Highway Administration CHART vehicle responded to check on the driver, the suspect reportedly stole a state truck and drove off,” the report said.
After the individual brazenly intercepted a Maryland Department of Transportation tow truck, the driver crashed into civilian vehicles and even a utility pole, causing chaos.
Diane Pham, who was driving home when the tow truck hit her car, told the magazine: “Oh my god…the truck came straight at me. I was so scared. I’m still shaking. “I’m working on it,” he said.
Officers from the Rockville, Forestville and College Park barracks pursued a stolen vehicle in Calverton, Maryland, around 5:50 p.m.

The suspect was eventually arrested in Silver Spring after authorities led a police chase that lasted nearly two hours.
A viral video shows about 10 police officers swarming around a tow truck parked in a wooded area. Officers had to break a window to gain access to the stolen vehicle and then forcibly removed the driver.
Montgomery County police said the driver became groggy and was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
A civilian, two law enforcement personnel, a Maryland State Trooper, and a Montgomery County Police Officer were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries sustained during the frantic car chase.
Maryland State Police said 13 vehicles were damaged in the rampage.
