Nurse Fired for Encouraging Harm to ICE Agents
Two legislators in Virginia are pushing for legal action against a former public health nurse at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) after she allegedly promoted harm toward ICE agents.
State Senator Glenn Sturtevant expressed his frustration, stating, “It’s basically common sense to have fired her for inciting what could be deemed medical terrorism. I’m pleased VCU took swift action.” He added, “We need clarity on the ongoing law enforcement investigation. It baffles me why she hasn’t faced any state charges yet.” He emphasized that the Department of Justice is involved in the matter.
Sturtevant remarked that the nurse was essentially calling for the poisoning of federal agents for political motives, and that this behavior is unacceptable. He also suggested that Malinda Cook should lose her nursing license.
VCU Health announced Cook’s termination on Tuesday after her TikTok videos gained widespread attention. In one of these videos, she mentioned using syringes to administer saline or succinylcholine, an anesthetic that causes temporary muscle paralysis, as a “sabotage” tactic against opponents.
After backlash ensued online, VCU Health conducted a prompt investigation and decided to part ways with Cook, confirming that the nurse was no longer employed.
Sturtevant criticized the rhetoric coming from left-wing politicians, suggesting that they indirectly encourage violent behavior through their comments. He anticipates that the Justice Department will step in, even if local law enforcement does not take action. Additionally, he called for an explanation of how Cook was hired and how she retained her position despite her controversial posts.
Wren Williams, a Republican representative in the Virginia House, also spoke out, arguing that Cook should face prosecution and emphasizing the importance of accountability. He observed that such violent rhetoric from Democrats has been evident for quite some time.
Neither VCU Health nor Cook has responded to inquiries for comment.
