Powerful Virginia Family Faces Divorce Drama
It looks like it’s heading toward a split right down the middle.
The son of a well-known Virginia billionaire has had a rocky relationship with his child’s former nanny. Apparently, during a Christmas gathering, he expressed to his wife a desire to end their marriage.
Peter Goodwin, who’s married to Carla Goodwin, a respected clinical psychologist, has been caught in a contentious divorce that has strong ties to his family’s legacy. His father, William Goodwin, is a significant figure in Virginia’s business world, formerly co-owning the AMF bowling chain.
Documents indicate that Peter initiated divorce proceedings after a tense holiday event at their estate in Virginia.
Kara Goodwin recounted a dramatic scene where she, holding their four-month-old daughter, confronted Peter. Court filings revealed that the couple’s three other children witnessed this conflict firsthand.
Just days after Kara’s confrontation, Peter was reportedly seen on vacation with Annette Lombard, who had previously worked as their nanny. Their time together spanned various luxurious locations, from Florida to Wyoming, with accusations of infidelity surfacing in the legal papers.
At just 27, Lombard had been a part of their family since she began caring for their children during the pandemic. Although close with the children, Kara raised concerns about the nature of Peter and Lombard’s interactions long before the marriage started falling apart.
Things took a turn last August when Kara gave birth to their fourth child. Following this, Peter began voicing a need for independence, as stated in the divorce filings.
On social media, Peter showcases his luxurious lifestyle, filled with sports cars and high-end watches, boasting a considerable following. In contrast, Kara also shares insights into parenting on her account, amassing a large audience of her own.
William Goodwin, Peter’s father, has a significant portfolio in both investments and charitable endeavors, having donated millions to healthcare initiatives over the years. He has held various notable positions, including being appointed to the UVA board by past governors.
Peter officially filed for divorce in January 2025, and records show both sides have their own grievances. They were married in 2014 and share four children, ages 2, 5, 7, and 9.
Kara is seeking half of their assets and additional financial support for legal fees associated with the divorce. Thankfully, they’ve reached some agreements regarding custody of their children.
Representatives for both parties have chosen not to comment, and Lombard did not respond to requests for her perspective. Recently, Peter has asked the court to seal the divorce proceedings.
