A Virginia man was sentenced to 100 years in prison for killing a co-worker who stole his lunch from a Target company refrigerator.
Bazun Bahhe, 25, was sentenced to 100 years in prison with 30 years suspended, meaning 70 years in prison, the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney announced Tuesday, according to Fox 5 DC.
Barhe was charged with first-degree murder after he fatally stabbed his co-worker, Hernan Leyva, 58, in a Target parking lot on Bailey’s Crossroads on the morning of April 17, 2021. Mr. Berge was angry with Mr. Leyva, who was his caretaker. At Target, he had removed his lunch from the office refrigerator three days earlier, prosecutors said.

After his lunch was stolen, Berge began planning the murder of his colleague. On April 15, he purchased a hammer and two knives upon finishing his shift at Target. He told detectives he spent the next day, April 16, “training for murder.”
On the morning of April 17, Berge carried out the murder. He arrived early at the employee parking lot and waited for Leyva’s arrival.
When Leyva arrived, Berge stabbed and bludgeoned Leyva to death and fled the scene.
Berge quickly confessed to the killing and pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in October 2023.

Prosecutors said at Mr. Berge’s sentencing hearing that he had threatened to kill or harm others unless he received the harshest possible sentence.
“Mr. Leyva’s needless and tragic death has left a grieving family and community. Nothing will ever be the same after such a senseless act of violence,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano said in a statement. It’s not going to happen,” he said. “In this case, today’s sentence was a necessary outcome to maintain public safety, given the unique and self-proclaimed danger that the defendant continues to pose to the community.”
