Virginia Officials Condemn School Board After Suspension of Students

Virginia Governor Earl Sears, along with lieutenant governor candidate John Reid and leading Republicans from Loudoun County, have expressed their strong disapproval of the local school board following the suspension of three students. This action came after an incident in a locker room involving transgender students.

In August, the boys were reportedly suspended after they voiced their discomfort regarding a trans student using the boys’ locker room. This situation leads to a broader investigation, with Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyarez initiating a Title IX probe, which was later escalated to the Justice Department and the Federal Department of Education.

On Wednesday, Geary Higgins, a Republican from Waterford, stood outside a recent school board meeting. He criticized the board for what he described as “continuing to double and triple illegal policies at taxpayer costs,” claiming they compromised children’s privacy and safety.

Higgins, who previously served on the school board, dismissed the board’s views on transgenderism as “science-denial nonsense.” He expressed concern that this stubbornness not only jeopardizes students but also places the county’s government funding at risk.

“We are putting our own students at risk,” he remarked, adding that it embarrasses the community and betrays parents while harming teachers in the public school system.

He also highlighted the boys’ injustice, saying they were punished for expressing unease about having a trans student in their locker room.

“These boys are victims of a misguided agenda,” Higgins asserted, calling for a re-election of Myires alongside Sears and Reid to establish a more sensible approach in future school board elections.

Despite the area’s conservative past, a shift occurred when suburban growth from Washington began to change its political landscape during the second Bush administration. Outside the meeting on Tuesday, Sears stated that their purpose was simple: to ensure every child has the right to privacy. She emphasized that no one wants to undress in front of the opposite sex and questioned how it might feel for vulnerable children, particularly girls.

Interestingly, she mentioned being restricted from speaking during the public comment period due to not being a county resident or former student, which led to her further frustration.

Higgins reflected on the school system’s decline, noting that drastic changes began around 2018 with a shift away from a conservative majority on the board, leading to deteriorating conditions.

In response, the school board pushed back, clarifying to Fox News Digital that the students’ punishment was not a result of their discomfort alone. A spokesperson affirmed that suspensions would only occur under serious violations of Title IX guidelines.

They also contested Higgins’ claims about the educational decline in the county, stating his concerns were “not entirely true.”
