Virginia Cavaliers Celebrate Major Win
Virginia Cavaliers fans had a night to remember on Friday as their team pulled off a thrilling victory against No. 8 Florida State, winning 46-38 in a second overtime. This marked the Cavaliers’ first home win over a top 10 team since they defeated the Seminoles back in 2005.
As the game wound down, excitement built at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville. When Florida’s quarterback, Thomas Castellanos, missed a final attempt into the end zone, fans rushed onto the field to celebrate. The atmosphere was electric, with supporters urging their players on.
Florida State’s coach, Mike Nobel, seemed relieved afterwards, mentioning he thought his players were okay. “I don’t know what the issue was,” he said, noting the team was in the locker room when the drama unfolded.
Virginia’s coach, Tony Elliott, expressed regret at not getting a chance to speak with Nobel post-game, saying, “I truly respect him and all he’s achieved with that program. I hope everyone is alright.” There were reports of some chaos involving a fan on a stretcher, though it’s believed he wasn’t seriously hurt.
There’s a possibility that Virginia might face fines for the field storming. The ACC has a policy that penalizes schools for such occurrences: $50,000 for the first violation, $100,000 for the second, and $200,000 for any further violations within a two-year span.
On the stat sheet, Morris completed 35 of 26 passes for 229 yards, with two touchdowns but also three interceptions. Running back J’Mari Taylor had a respectable outing as well, totaling 99 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries.
For Florida, Castellanos finished the game 18 for 32 with 254 yards, including touchdown passes, but he also threw two interceptions and ran for one touchdown.
The excitement of the game undoubtedly made for a memorable night in Charlottesville, leaving fans hopeful for what’s to come.
