The New Moon in Virgo occurs on Monday, September 2, 2024 at 9:55 PM EDT and calls you to identify, direct, course-set, and release that which is impeding, frustrating, or undermining your growth.
Virgo is synonymous with ritual cleansing, and the energies of this new moon are preparatory – sweeping temple floors, anointing bodies, ironing robes, dipping candles in flames, etc.
Of course, Virgo is symbolized in the constellations and the sky by a virgin, but perhaps it's time to rethink that concept. Virgins aren't what you think they are, but more on that later.
What is a New Moon?
A new moon occurs when the moon is in conjunction with the sun and is no longer visible from our perspective on Earth.
The energies peak during the Full Moon and slowly decline during the New Moon, a celestial spring cleanse that triggers a new lunar cycle.
The new moon always coincides with the zodiac sign the sun is transiting through, in this case it would be the Virgo zodiac sign of changeable earth, no regrets, and do better.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, which rules your sixth house of daily rituals, physical health, and service, so this lunar eclipse is about redefining/refining your relationship to your body and purpose.
What does the new moon in Virgo mean?
This New Moon has a deadly fresh and very fastidious influence, providing a great time for intention setting and plan making, but because this New Moon forms an almost exact opposition with father planet Saturn, you may feel like your efforts are not paying off.
Take heart in the classic image of Virgo holding wheat chaff: Before you can see the harvest, you must first sow the seed, my friends.
Virgo is an earth sign, so you're good at keeping your feet on the ground and working hard, but just after this new moon, Mars, planet of will and war, forms a wild (and unsexy) square with Neptune, planet of psychic visions and devastating delusions.

If we lean towards this idea of independence, this New Moon encourages us to become fully independent and consciously distance ourselves from people and practices that inhibit us from doing so.
Just as being a virgin has nothing to do with the hymen, Virgo energy is not about perfection.
This is the last eclipse before the portal opens and eclipse season begins, calling us to take action for ourselves, who we are, and who we can become.
