State Department Takes Action Following Political Assassination

Last Wednesday, the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk exposed the disturbing underbelly of online discourse, where some individuals were seen celebrating the murder of political figures. This particularly alarmed the State Department, which has made its stance clear regarding foreigners living in the U.S. on visas.

In response to the shooting, the State Department swiftly began working to revoke the visas of those who expressed approval of Kirk’s assassination. The ongoing violence in various parts of the country has led to warnings for visa holders—students, workers, and visitors alike—that they might face serious repercussions, perhaps even deportation.

“I want to stress that individuals who encourage violence and hatred are not welcome here,” stated Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He emphasized that the U.S. will not host those who rejoice in the deaths of its citizens. Rubio noted that the visa revocation process is already underway for those who support the assassination of political figures.

He mentioned in a clip that people on visas are expected to meet “very high” conduct standards while in the U.S. “We shouldn’t be granting visas to anyone who comes here and celebrates acts like murder or execution,” he added.

Shortly after Kirk’s assassination, Secretary of State Christopher Landau reiterated these sentiments, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring that those who endorse violence are unable to find refuge in the country. He urged people to report any such comments made by foreigners to the State Department to help protect Americans.
