Tourists Rescued After Being Trapped on Oregon Beach

On Wednesday, a group of tourists found themselves stranded on an Oregon beach when rising tides cut off their escape route while they were attempting to take a dramatic photo, as reported by local authorities.

The tourists hiked down to a cove in Tillamook County, hoping to capture the perfect picture, but the adventure took a dangerous turn, according to The Oregonian.

Getting to Lost Boy Beach isn’t the easiest task; it involves navigating a tricky path lined with sharp rocks and crossing an open-ended sea cave before finally reaching the shoreline.

However, the visitors underestimated the incoming tide, which swiftly left them stuck on the beach, noted Tillamook Fire Chief Jeff McBrayer. “I mean, it’s really a good idea to ask a local or check a tide app first,” McBrayer said. “When people are trapped, getting help isn’t always straightforward.”

The fire department received the alert about the stranded tourists around 3:45 p.m.

Rescuers were dispatched after one member of the group managed to call 911 using a satellite phone, as cellular service was not available in the area, according to McBrayer.

When authorities sent a drone to the location, they spotted the stranded trio waiting anxiously on a small patch of land, having formed an “SOS” with sticks.

Fire crews quickly moved in, navigating the limited dry shoreline to reach the group, who were getting cold and wet as the tide continued to rise. The commander mentioned that the conditions were a bit chaotic with large waves crashing around them.

Once the rescue team reached them, they outfitted the tourists with life vests and guided them through the surf until they could walk out of the cove safely. Fortunately, despite some bumps and bruises, everyone was unharmed.

McBrayer expressed hope that this incident serves as a reminder for others to exercise caution when venturing out to explore Oregon’s beautiful beaches.
