Ramaswamy Wins Ohio GOP Gubernatorial Primary
Vivek Ramaswamy secured a decisive victory against Casey Pucci in the Ohio Republican gubernatorial primary on Tuesday night. Ramaswamy garnered 297,750 votes, capturing 82.2% of the total, while Pucci received 64,445 votes, or 17.8%.
“Today, I am proud to officially say that I am honored to serve as the Republican nominee for Governor of Ohio,” Ramaswamy expressed at his victory rally, which attracted a significant crowd of supporters. He thanked everyone for their backing, saying, “Well then, everyone, thank you for bringing me here.”
He believes Ohio has a remarkable opportunity to not just stand out in the Midwest but also emerge as a leading state nationally. “We have a historic opportunity to lead Ohio into the top state in the nation. A state where we raise young families, give our children a world-class education, and revive this strange idea called the American Dream,” he continued.
Ramaswamy has received backing from former President Donald Trump on various occasions. In February 2025, Trump referred to Ramaswamy as “a special person” on Truth Social, noting he’s “young, strong and smart” and would make a “great governor of Ohio.” In a subsequent November post, Trump emphasized his “full and complete support,” stating he knows Ramaswamy well and admires his qualities.
“As Governor-elect, Vivek will focus on growing the economy, reducing taxes and regulations, promoting Made in the USA, and America’s Energy,” Trump mentioned. He also highlighted the importance of securing borders, ensuring law and order, and maintaining election integrity.
Looking ahead, Ramaswamy will be running against Democratic candidate Amy Acton, a former state health director, as reported. Some speculate about Ramaswamy’s ideas, such as eliminating Ohio’s income tax, but critics have noted his relative lack of electoral experience. Meanwhile, Acton previously collaborated with Governor Mike DeWine during the COVID-19 pandemic.
