Vivian Wilson, who is the estranged daughter of billionaire Elon Musk, has recently been vocal about her financial situation since starting her modeling career this year.
“I’m financially independent,” the 21-year-old stated during her appearance at the Teen Vogue 2025 Summit. “I’m making money now, though some people have a lot of assumptions, and you kind of just have to deal with it.”
Featured on the cover of a fashion magazine in March, Wilson also reflected on her career choices. “Honestly, I don’t earn anything from being famous—zero dollars, zero cents. I’m living rent-free in people’s minds,” she quipped.
Initially, her goal was to become a model, although she admitted to considering a career streaming on Twitch at one point. Yet, the idea of participating in a reality show seemed like “an absolute dream” for her.
Earlier this month, she spoke to another outlet about her finances, clarifying that people often assume she has a lot of money, but she actually shares an apartment with roommates to save costs. “I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars at my disposal. My mom is wealthy, sure, but my dad takes things to a whole other level,” she explained.
Wilson expressed that while she doesn’t aspire to be “very rich” like Musk, she does feel “a lot more fortunate than many” her age in Los Angeles.
In May, Wilson made her runway debut at a “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” event in New York City, where she wowed the audience. The following month, it was announced that she would be part of Patagonia’s “Save Her!” drug show, sharing her excitement online about her “first time performing on drugs.”
By September, she had also made an appearance at New York Fashion Week during the “Miss USA 1991” event, proudly carrying the “Miss South Carolina” sash. The designer, Alexis Bitter, mentioned that the contestants were chosen to represent states where trans rights are under attack.
Musk was married to Vivian’s mother, Justine Wilson, from 2000 until 2008, and the couple shares six children together.
