Voters Don’t Care About Harris Doing Interviews

MSNBC political commentator Jason Johnson said Monday on MSNBC's “The Beat” that only “media elites,” not voters, care about whether Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris is interviewed.

Asked about the vice president's recent CNN interview, Johnson said, “Frankly, I've always thought the importance of that interview was greater to the Acela Corridor media elite than it was to what actual voters care about.”

He continued: “Voters are hearing what they want to hear from Harris, because every time Harris and Tim Waltz are on TV, the ratings soar. The stadiums are full. This isn't just about egos. Men and women, young and old, people of all races, colors and creeds say they're interested. And once someone's interested, it's much, much easier to sell a policy. I think what will be interesting going forward is what would happen if Harris were to, say, hold a press conference where she's asked a bunch of random questions. Of course, she'd be OK, because she's the vice president of the United States.”

Johnson added, “In the last eight or nine weeks, she's transitioned from an insurgent newcomer candidate to a more traditional candidate, so it's going to be very interesting to see how that plays out, how specific her policies and policy presentations become, even as she's in the midst of rallying, voter registration and, frankly, expanding her district if she thinks she can win.”
