Voting ahead of schedule starts in New York and New Jersey for mayoral and gubernatorial elections

Early Voting Begins in New York and New Jersey

Early voting kicks off this Saturday in New York, coinciding with a closely watched mayoral race and a gubernatorial showdown in New Jersey. The New York State Board of Elections has confirmed that in-person early voting will run from October 25 to November 2, which is garnering significant national interest.

Currently, Zoran Mamdani is leading the Democratic mayoral candidates and has received an endorsement from Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader in New York State. Additionally, former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent, has received support from the current mayor, Eric Adams.

“I’m casting my vote tomorrow, on the first day of early voting,” Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa declared on “The Will Cain Show.” He emphasized that his decision to vote is a strong statement about his commitment to the race.

Mamdani has criticized Cuomo for remarks considered Islamophobic amidst this contentious campaign. Meanwhile, Sliwa faces increasing pressure to step aside to enhance Cuomo’s chances against Mamdani.

In New Jersey, early voting locations will open across all counties from October 25 to November 2. This follows a significant legislative change in 2021, which aimed to make voting easier and more accessible in the state.

The gubernatorial contest features Democrat Mikie Sherrill against Republican Jack Ciattarelli, as current Democratic Governor Phil Murphy is set to retire come January.

“The polls look favorable, and I’m feeling optimistic,” Sherrill noted after a major rally in Northern New Jersey this week, reflecting a confident stance in her campaign.

Ciattarelli, too, expressed similar sentiments during a campaign stop in Linden, stating, “I think we’re positioned really well right now,” highlighting his belief in the strength of his campaign as Election Day approaches.
