‘Voting for a Decent Person’

Former Georgia lieutenant governor Jeff Duncan (Republican) has expressed his concern for “criminal defendants with no moral compass” in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, calling for a “decent person” like President Joe Biden. He made it clear that he would support it.

In an editorial written in atlanta journal constitutionDuncan criticized Republican lawmakers who are “sympathizing” with former President Donald Trump’s supporters labeled it “unfortunate” and said the thinking of those who decided to support Trump as the Republican presidential nominee was “completely wrong.” “There is,” he claims.

Duncan cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R-Ky.), and former prosecutors as “Republicans aligned behind former President Donald Trump. It’s unfortunate to see this increase.” General Bill Barr has announced his support for Trump.

While acknowledging there were serious concerns about Biden’s age, Duncan wrote that “the Republican Party will never be rebuilt” unless it “moves out of the Trump era.”

The Republican Party will not be rebuilt until we emerge from the Trump era, and conservative (but not angry) Republicans like me have no choice but to pull the lever on Biden. At the same time, we should work to elect a Republican Congressional Majority to block his second-term legislative agenda and provide checks and balances.

A recent Harvard-Harris poll found that 55% of Americans are concerned about Biden’s age, with 80% of Republicans and 62% of independents expressing concern about Biden’s age. . Twenty-six percent of Democrats also expressed concerns about Biden’s age and mental health.

The poll also found that 66% of Americans think Biden is “too old” to be president. Among them, 91% of Republicans, 77% of independents, and 34% of Democrats said that Biden “shows he is too old.”

“The alternative is another word from Mr. Trump, disqualified by his conduct and character,” Duncan added. “The hush money trial over allegations of improper record-keeping of payments to cover up an extramarital affair with an adult film star is making headlines,” he said, referring to President Trump’s business records trial. .

President Trump is currently facing 34 counts of first-degree falsification of business records related to payments made to adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Duncan went on to accuse Trump “and his allies” of concocting a plan to use alternate electors from battleground states such as Arizona, Michigan, Nevada and Georgia to spread “outlandish conspiracy theories.” .

“Trump showed us what kind of person he is. We should believe in him. There’s no way he could change at 77 years old,” Duncan added.

Duncan went on to say, “Unlike Trump, I have been a Republican all my life. This November, I will be voting for a sane man with whom I disagree on policies toward criminal defendants who have no moral compass.” intend.”

The former Georgia lieutenant governor is no stranger to criticizing Trump. In an August 2023 interview with CNN, Duncan said he was “perplexed” that millions of Republicans view Trump as a leader.

Duncan previously said it was time for Republicans to put Trump in the “rearview mirror.”
