VP Vance: Prepared to take charge if necessary, but President Trump is in ‘great health’

Trump’s Health and Vance’s Preparedness Remarks

In a recent interview, Vice President JD Vance addressed inquiries regarding President Donald Trump’s health, stating that the president is in “incredibly good health.” However, he also made it clear that he’s prepared to step in as needed.

During a Friday conversation with USA TODAY, Vance was asked for his thoughts on the current health status of the 79-year-old president and his own readiness to assume leadership, should the situation require it.

“The president is incredibly healthy,” Vance noted. “He has an incredible amount of energy. He is the last person to call in the night, and the first person to wake up and start calling in the morning.”

When the topic shifted to whether he feels ready to take charge if anything were to happen to President Trump, Vance responded, “Yes, things can happen at any time. A terrible tragedy could occur. But I’m confident in the president’s well-being. And if something were to happen, I can’t think of a better training ground than the past 200 days I’ve experienced.”

His remarks come in light of President Trump’s recent diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that is often seen in older adults and can lead to swelling in the legs.

White House physician Sean Barbabera mentioned that this condition is “beneficially and ordinary, especially for individuals over 70.”

“Importantly, there was no evidence of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) or arterial disease,” Barbabera wrote in a note issued in July.

Additionally, he addressed online speculation regarding bruises on Trump’s hands, attributing them to mild soft tissue irritation from frequent manual activity and the use of aspirin, which the president takes as a precautionary measure for cardiovascular health.

“This is a well-known benign side effect of aspirin therapy,” he clarified.

Overall, Barbabera has indicated that President Trump is “maintaining a healthy state of health.”
