Walmart Lowers Prices on Many Summer Products, Receiving Trump's Approval

This summer, Walmart has made significant price reductions on a variety of groceries, household goods, and seasonal products, including approximately 12% off ground meat, aiming to enhance affordability for American shoppers facing ongoing inflation issues.

The largest grocery chain in the U.S. announced on Monday that it will implement “rollback” discounts in its stores and online. It will also feature specific price cuts at Sam’s Club. For instance, the price of a 1-pound roll of 73% lean ground meat will decrease from $6.74 to $5.94. Additionally, fresh sweet corn has dropped from 68 cents to 25 cents each, a 2.25-pound bag of cherries has gone from $11.18 to $5.63, and 24-packs of Coca-Cola and other sodas are seeing reductions of about one-third.

Walmart accounts for roughly 20% of all grocery sales in the United States, which gives it a notable advantage over rivals like Costco and Kroger. More than 70% of households in the U.S. buy their groceries from Walmart.

Sam’s Club is cutting prices on over 250 items, including chicken wings, hot dogs, ground beef, and pork ribs, while also emphasizing lower fuel prices.

“Customers look to Walmart for the value they need every day, and this summer is no exception,” said Julie Barber, Walmart US’s executive vice president and chief merchant, in a company statement. “We are committed to further investing in our prices this summer.”

Former President Donald Trump reacted positively to the news. In a post on Truth Social, he mentioned that the price cuts were requested by his administration as part of the celebration for the 250th anniversary of the nation.

“This is a significant move for the millions of Americans who shop wisely at Walmart, a truly patriotic company that cares for America. My administration is working to reduce the prices that Joe Biden has ineffectively increased during this historical inflation crisis, along with the various failures related to our border and Afghanistan,” Trump stated.

“Walmart is taking bold steps, and other retailers should follow this patriotic example,” he added, linking the price cuts to his administration’s broader efforts to tackle inflation, mentioning decreases in oil and gas prices among other categories.
