Walmart reaches opioid shareholder settlement

Walmart on Friday agreed to a settlement regarding the distribution of prescription opioids, according to a Security and Exchange Commission filing.

this settlement The lawsuit includes three separate shareholder lawsuits alleging that Walmart does not adequately supervise the distribution and distribution of prescription opioids under the Controlled Substances Act.

The agreement still requires court approval.

If approved, the insurance company will pay $123 million into the account, excluding court costs and other attorney fees, the agreement states. The agreement, filed Friday, contains no admission of liability and Walmart “expressly” denies any wrongdoing.

“The proposed settlement acknowledges that the directors and officers maintain that they did nothing wrong. This matter is resolved to avoid the risk, confusion and expense of continued litigation. The matter was resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties,” a Walmart spokesperson said in an email to The Hill.

In 2022, Walmart paid $3.1 billion to settle a nationwide lawsuit over opioid prescriptions.
