Waltz: We are going to have ‘a Reagan moment’ with Trump, ceasefire deal

Rep. Mike Walz (R-Fla.) said President-elect Trump will have a “Reagan-like moment” when he takes office as ceasefire agreements begin in the Middle East.

Walz appeared on CBS' “Face the Nation” on Sunday to weigh in on the agreement between Israel and Hamas, nearly a year and a half after the start of the war in Gaza.

He noted that the Trump administration, which takes office on Monday, will seek to uphold the ceasefire agreement negotiated by the Biden administration. If Hamas delays or changes the deal, the United States will support Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Walz said.

Walz said the hostages captured by Hamas and held captive since October 7, 2023 have been kidnapped for a longer period of time than the hostages in the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.

“Now we're going to have a Reagan moment,” he said. “President Trump will be sworn in as the hostages come out alive.”

“And that's something we should all celebrate,” Walz continued.

The ceasefire agreement was announced by President Biden last week as one of his final acts before leaving office.

The first three hostages were scheduled to be released on Sunday as part of the first phase of a three-part plan.

The third phase of the plan considers rebuilding and rebuilding the Gaza Strip, which has been extensively destroyed since the start of the war.

Walz, who is resigning from the House of Representatives to become Trump's national security adviser, said Sunday that Trump supported a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians during his first administration. Ta.
