LOS ANGELES, California — About 100 pro-Israel vigilantes stormed the Palestinian Solidarity Encampment at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, sparking a fight with activists.

The attack occurred nearly a week after UCLA not only allowed the camp’s main square to be occupied, but also allowed pro-Palestinian activists to provide their own security and closed it to students and the public.

Fireworks, tear gas and fighting began shortly after 10:50 p.m. Tuesday night and continued into the early morning hours of Wednesday, with about 100 pro-Israel counter-protesters occupying surrounding barricades and ongoing at Dixon Plaza. attempted to attack a Palestinian Solidarity encampment.

Students, including but not limited to visibly Jewish students, are denied access to classes and sidewalks by masked pro-Palestinian activists, excluding all but those who can present special wristbands. A video has been circulating for several days.

Sunday’s Breitbart News Said There was testimony from UCLA’s security contractors that the university was contracting security to activists. (Two days ago, activists used force to assault this journalist and remove me from the camp.)
UCLA is a public university funded by taxpayers, and the area in front of Royce Hall is considered public space.
Many in the Jewish community were shocked by the existence of the “Palestinian Solidarity Encampment” and by the university authorities’ apparent respect for it.
The area around UCLA is one of the most pro-Israel areas in the country. Beverly Hills, Brentwood, and Bel Air are home to many Jewish families, especially Persian Jews, many of whom fled Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
Many Israeli expatriates live in Los Angeles.
Counter-protesters and activists have been clashing since early last Thursday, and tensions have been high for several days. On Friday, a prankster woke up activists by playing a Robin Williams monologue from the movie. Good morning, Vietnam.
After clashes at Sunday’s pro-Israel counter-protest, pro-Israel groups set up a large video screen across the street from the encampment, playing footage of Hamas atrocities on a continuous loop.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) did nothing to protect the safety of students on campus as activists used violence to patrol the perimeter of the camp, but told X to monitor the situation. issued a statement that there is.

The state finally intervened after Newsom and UC President Michael Drake were absent for weeks over the encampment issue, after photos of California Highway Patrol troopers in riot gear appeared on the News Telegraph. suggested that.

The violence occurred hours after New York City police raided Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall to remove pro-Palestinian activists who had broken into the building early Tuesday morning.
The UCLA administration finally statement On Tuesday, it warned that the encampment was illegal and “called for a law enforcement investigation into the alleged violence” by activists at the encampment.
However, it was only after pro-Israel protesters arrived and began storming the barricades that law enforcement moved in and separated the two sides. It remains to be seen what will become of the remaining parts of the encampment.
