Sen. Raphael Warnock made a biblical point about former President Donald Trump on Easter Sunday.
Blaming the 77-year-old for licensing his name to sell “God Bless the American Bible,” Warnock (D-Ga.) drew parallels between Trump and the money changers in the New Testament. Painted.
“The Bible doesn’t need Donald Trump’s support, and Jesus kicked the money changers out of the temple in the last week of his life,” Warnock said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“The sad thing is that none of us are surprised by this. This is what we expect from a former president,” Martin Luther King Jr. famously preached.・He, who served as senior pastor at a Baptist church for many years, added:
“At the end of the day. I think he’s trying to sell goods securities to the American public, which will work in 2016.”
President Trump last week publicly endorsed the “God Bless the USA Bible,” which sells for $59.99 each. He touted it as part of some kind of “Make America Pray Again” initiative.
According to the God Bless the USA Bible website, the proceeds will not go directly to his campaign, but he does benefit from licensing the brand.
Its Bible is based on the King James Version of the Bible. Also featured are copies of the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, Pledge of Allegiance, and a handwritten chorus of “God Bless The USA” by Lee Greenwood.
Greenwood also supported Trump’s interpretation of the Bible.
Warnock thought President Trump’s decision to promote Bible sales could backfire, especially if his supporters actually read the Bible.
“This is a risky gamble, because the people who buy those Bibles may actually open the Bible and it says things like ‘Thou shalt not lie’ and ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness.’ It says, “We’re warning you about wolves in sheep’s clothing,” Mr. Warnock rebuked.
Mr. Warnock was scheduled to deliver an Easter sermon later Sunday.
Trump, who has aggressively appealed to conservative evangelical voters, has a colorful history with the Bible.
Back in 2016, while at Liberty University, he mispronounced 2 Corinthians by saying “2 Corinthians.”
Sometimes he attacked the popehe claimed. I don’t like asking God for forgiveness and shared a social media post He is likened to “the second coming of God.”
“Every American needs a Bible in their home, and I have many. It’s my favorite book. It’s a book that’s loved by a lot of people,” Trump said last week. This was highlighted in a video promoting the new initiative.
“This Bible reminds us that the greatest thing we have to bring to make America great again is our religion.”
The newspaper has contacted the Trump campaign for comment.
