Warriors lose by 40-points to Celitcs in worst home defeat in four decades

Jayson Tatum led six Boston players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 22 points as the Celtics defeated the Golden State Warriors 125-85 in San Francisco on Monday as part of the NBA's Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations. They led in points.

Kristaps Porzingis scored 18 points and Jaylen Brown added 17 for Boston, which lost its season series opener to Golden State for the fourth straight season, but tied the game and scored a bit more in the rematch.

Golden State hasn't lost by 40 points at home since January 15, 1985.

The 40-point difference was similar to the Celtics' 140-88 win over the Warriors last March, after Golden State won 132-126 in overtime three months earlier.

This time, the Warriors surprised the defending champions on their home floor with a 118-112 win on Nov. 6.

Tatum also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, had seven assists and two steals. Peyton Pritchard combined for a game-high nine assists and 14 points.

Sam Hauser scored 11 points and Jrue Holiday added 10 for the Celtics, who have won and lost their past nine games.

Derrick White had three of Boston's nine blocks and added eight points, five rebounds and five assists.

In the rematch, Boston was dominant on both ends of the court.

Led by Brown, who shot 8-of-14 from the floor, and Holiday, who made 2-of-3 from 3-point range, the Celtics shot 53.3 percent overall and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc. He succeeded in 20 out of 48 shots.

Meanwhile, the Warriors were held to 34.8% overall shooting percentage and 26.4% deep shooting percentage, making just 14 of 53 attempts.

Andrew Wiggins especially struggled for Golden State, missing all four 3-point attempts and going just 1-of-11 from the floor on 4-pointers.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 18 points, but was only 4 of 12 from 3-point range.

Moses Moody added 13 points for Golden State, which was missing Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podzemski and Kyle Anderson with injuries.

For the Warriors, Moody had six rebounds and a team-high five assists, and Kevon Looney had a team-high seven rebounds.

The Celtics led 54-39 at halftime and took control in the third quarter.

Tatum scored 12 points in the third for Boston, who made 16 of 24 shots, including eight threes, and opened up a 34-point lead entering the fourth.
