A thief in Washington state led police on an hours-long chase before becoming stranded in a telephone line above the ground, Vancouver police said.

On Saturday, Vancouver police responded to a call about a suspect allegedly breaking into a car and stealing several items before taking off and entering a nearby yard and stealing a bicycle.

A neighbor witnessed the bicycle theft and chased the suspect, who was later identified by police as Romando E. Stanley. According to police, the man abandoned his bicycle and left on foot.

Police were responding to an earlier crime when they received a report that a man matching Stanley’s description had entered the store, took an employee’s cell phone, and punched the employee in the chest before fleeing on foot. Officers were dispatched to another area. .
