Washington state teen in custody after shooting leaves 5 family members dead

A Washington state teenager was taken into custody Monday after authorities say five family members were shot to death and six others were injured during a domestic violence incident inside the home.

Deputies responded around 5 a.m. to reports of a shooting at a Fall City residence and immediately took action, King County Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Mellis said at a news conference Monday afternoon. One teen was taken into custody, and another injured teen was taken to a Seattle hospital, police said.

Officers entered the home and found the bodies of two adults and three juveniles.

“Once the body was found, it was clear that this was a very serious crime scene,” he said.

A teenage girl who was shot twice ran away and called for help from a neighbor. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where medical officials said her condition was “satisfactory.” FOX13 Seattle reported.

“I just saw the kids in the driveway yesterday afternoon,” said neighbor Lynn Trowane. he told the outlet. “I'm in shock. I'm in tears.”

A former neighbor told FOX13 the children were all well-behaved and were home schooled. Others described how their children helped their parents and neighbors with projects at their homes, and how the family took walks around the lake almost every day.

Melis said it appears a family member was involved in the shooting, but investigators don't yet know what their relationship was.

“Five out of seven members of a family were tragically murdered,” King County Councilwoman Sarah Perry said in a statement. “I am heartbroken for the lives lost.”

“Early this morning, we learned of horrific circumstances in the Lake Alice neighborhood of Fall City where five of a family of seven were tragically murdered,” she wrote.

King County Sheriff Patty Cole-Tindall told reporters she was “very saddened and very disturbed” by the shooting.

“My team will do a great job investigating this matter and will uncover the facts related to this case, but that could take days, weeks, or even months. Yes,” Cole-Tindall said.
