House Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries from New York addressed reporters on Thursday as Republicans actively pushed for advancements in Trump’s legislative agenda.
On Wednesday, GOP members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee moved forward with a bill that proposes abrupt cuts to Medicaid and other healthcare provisions, which are among the most contentious elements. Democrats have been resisting Republican attempts to reduce funding and to extend Trump’s tax cuts from 2017.
Jeffries has consistently criticized the president’s policies since he took office over 100 days ago, opposing initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as measures targeting immigration and reforms at the Department of Government Efficiency.
His statements also reflect Mike Johnson’s backing of a ban on stock trading by Congress members during their time in office.
