A moose was on the loose in the Russian city of Salavat for several days, sparking fear as game wardens struggled to track it down.
“The moose ran into a field,” said Radik Muratov, the city’s civil defense and emergency department director, adding that the moose eventually died after being hit by a black car on the city’s outskirts.
CCTV footage shows the moment a moose lunged at an elderly woman while she was walking her pug. The antlerless moose jumped in front of the woman, shoved her away and then ran off into the distance.
The old woman was thrown screaming and suffered some bruises from the fall, but was not seriously injured.

According to a report from East to West, the moose had wandered into the city from a nearby forest after being startled by the pug’s barking.
Game wardens attempted to find and sedate the moose, but lost it near a supermarket and it fled outside the city, where it died. Had game wardens captured the moose, they would have been able to sedate it and release it back into its natural habitat.

Earlier this month, a couple walking their dogs in Losinj Oslov National Park came across a wild moose. The moose chased one of the dogs onto a trail and tried to attack the women. The moose struck one of the women with its hoof, but the other Dalmatian distracted the moose.
The moose continued to try to attack the dog, but the Dalmatian’s owner tried to protect his dog, narrowly avoiding further kicks from the moose.

Moose sightings have occurred occasionally in Russian cities, and they have often suffered fatal or near-fatal accidents: in the fall of 2017, a moose wandered into Moscow and nearly drowned in a pond.

Witnesses reported seeing a second moose lying on the asphalt at some point and speculated that the animal may have been tired and was searching for food. The Moscow Times.
The two moose had strayed from a nearby national park and required the assistance of civil defense authorities to corner and capture them for release back into their natural habitat.
