For those who think securing a ticket to the 2028 Olympics is unrealistic, there’s some good news. You might not need to buy a ticket after all.
The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are looking for volunteers, which gives fans a chance to partake in the event without the cost of admission.
Through the LA28 Volunteer Program, individuals can register to help with community events leading up to the Games or take on roles during the event itself by completing an interest form on the program’s official website.
This initiative, backed by Delta Air Lines, aims to unite communities and support various causes, including wildfire recovery and youth sports, as mentioned on LA28’s website.
There are essentially two ways to get involved: volunteer in your community now or express your interest in a position for 2028.
If you’re keen on being part of the Olympic atmosphere, keep in mind that recruitment for volunteer roles during the Games is set to start in the summer of 2026.
In the meantime, those interested can sign up online and will be notified via email about any available opportunities.
It’s worth noting that volunteers are not restricted to Los Angeles. While current community roles focus on the greater Los Angeles area, there will be options at all venues during the Games, including places outside the city.
However, volunteers should keep a few points in mind. Applicants need to be at least 18 years old and fluent in English. Additionally, each individual must register separately, and unfortunately, not everyone who signs up will be chosen.
Still, getting involved early could be beneficial. Though community volunteering isn’t a prerequisite for later roles during the competition, it might enhance your chances when the application period opens.
As for Los Angeles residents, there’s been considerable frustration and disappointment regarding what they perceive as excessive advance ticket prices as organizers initiate sales.
Current ticket prices range from about $100 to over $1,000, depending on the event, with Closing Ceremony tickets soaring to nearly $5,000 each.
According to LA28, more tickets are expected to be released in future sales, and the resale market will kick off in 2027, although not all sessions will have tickets available.
The general sale for LA28 Olympic tickets starts from April 9 to 19, 2026, with more sales and a verified resale program scheduled to begin in 2027.
The 2028 Summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles from July 14 to July 30, utilizing various existing venues throughout Southern California, including the LA Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium, with some events happening in Oklahoma City.
