Setbacks for Radical Gender Ideology
The American Medical Association and the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons have voiced their opposition to gender reassignment surgery for minors, marking a significant setback for radical gender ideology.
However, just because there seems to be a shift doesn’t mean we can relax. A few years back, it appeared that progressives were on the winning side, confident in their eventual triumph similar to the acceptance of same-sex marriage. They fully believed that even traditional conservatives would ultimately support puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries aimed at children.
At that point, it looked like the Republican Party was gearing up to step back on this issue.
In 2022, for instance, a report highlighted how Republican governors in states like Utah and Indiana vetoed bans on biological males competing in women’s sports. Others, like those in Nebraska and Ohio, followed suit, rejecting legislation aimed at preventing child gender reassignment.
Yet, some activists, including Riley Gaines and Chloe Cole, didn’t back down. They, along with others, kept pushing against the tide.
It became clear to many Republicans that the matter of transgender rights among children was one where public sentiment leaned heavily against the Democrats.
Interestingly, the tides started turning in favor of the GOP. California’s Governor Gavin Newsom, who previously advocated for California as a “sanctuary state” for gender transitions without parental consent, openly expressed that it’s “extremely unfair” for biological males to compete in women’s sports. Even prominent progressives like AOC removed gender pronouns from their social media profiles, adding to the shift.
Meanwhile, Republican victories continued to stack up. The Supreme Court affirmed Tennessee’s prohibition on child gender reassignment in a ruling. This came alongside a report from the Department of Health and Human Services revealing risks associated with gender interventions on children, countering years of claims from trans activists.
Does this mean we’ve won? Not just yet.
During a recent Senate discussion concerning Netflix’s potential acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley pointed to a study indicating that 40% of children’s programming on Netflix contained LGBT+ content.
This acquisition would expand Netflix’s influence over popular franchises, intensifying concerns about the push of trans narratives aimed at younger audiences.
If we fail to act now, all the progress we’ve made against radical gender ideologies could slip away.
Now isn’t the time for complacency; we should be striving for truth. A biblical reference to Ezekiel warns of the consequences of silence in the face of wrongdoing. We need to continue to vocalize against what we perceive as harm, shining light on the issues and advocating for future generations.
Encouragingly, figures like Senator Hawley, along with Republican Senator Mike Lee from Utah and even former President Trump, have raised concerns regarding the Netflix deal.
Conservatives must advocate more aggressively for policies restricting children’s access to social media. These platforms often encourage distancing from reality and can negatively affect mental health. Research indicates a significant link between rapid-onset gender dysphoria in children and pre-existing mental health issues.
This is not a moment for conservatives to let their guard down. Should the Democrats regain power in the House or Senate, radical gender ideology could resurface as a key priority, keeping the political landscape heavily influenced.
We’ve made substantial strides against what many viewed as a modern civil rights issue, but history shows us that if we ease up now, radical ideas can regain traction and may be harder to confront in the future.
