On NBC's Friday edition of “MTP Now,” U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) said the economy and immigration will be key issues in the 2024 election, and that Democrats believe economic issues “started it all with the Democrats.” He said that people are not understanding that. And they should not blame President Joe Biden for immigration, but instead blame President-elect Donald Trump for blocking immigration reform from Congress.
“I think what's happened is, of course, when we talk about the economy, when we talk about immigration, what do we focus on? Those are issues that matter to individuals in America,” Meeks said. Ta. [Queens]. Again, obviously, to understand that when they talk about the economy, for example, it all started with a pandemic, 10 countries, 10 democracies around the world, they were either I don't think the issue resonated with me. If any government, Conservative or Liberal, was in power during the pandemic, they were all subsequently voted out of office. But we have a better way to communicate it and get people to understand it, and we need to do it now. ”
He continued, “When we talk about immigration, we challenge real jobs and people.” [who they should] Responsible for immigration and immigration reform, which the president didn't actually do. It should be done by the US Congress. Our job is to get immigration reform done. we tried to do that. President Trump stopped it. So those were the main issues that resonated with people. We did not respond appropriately and we did not respond in a timely manner. I think we can and should do that. Because all we have to do is tell the truth. ”
