We must succeed and we will complete it,” Speaker Johnson says Trump’s “great, attractive bill” is still “on schedule.

House Speaker Stays Optimistic About Budget Bill Despite Recent Setback

On “Fox News Sunday,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) expressed confidence that, despite a setback from the House Budget Committee’s recent vote, the proposed budget bill remains on course. Johnson emphasized the benefits of the bill and his determination to push it forward.

During the discussion, host Shannon Bream referenced the recent vote, highlighting a previous comment about the need for Republicans to take decisive action. She raised the issue of whether negotiations with dissenters had taken place to shift opinions.

“We’re on track, Shannon,” Johnson responded, reaffirming their commitment to delivering this significant legislation to Americans promptly. He indicated that all 11 committees had collaborated effectively, resulting in more savings than initially anticipated. “This is truly a generational opportunity,” he noted.

Johnson provided updates on the Budget Committee’s upcoming meeting and outlined a timeline for advancing the bill to the rules committee soon, aiming for a vote by the end of the week, aligning with the Memorial Day deadline.

He stressed the urgency of their efforts, stating that this aligns with the mandate given by voters in the last election. Johnson outlined the historical investments intended for American workers, border security, and the restoration of energy control, as well as defense enhancements.

The plan also includes support for programs like Medicaid and SNAP, ensuring that aid goes to eligible citizens rather than those misusing the system. Johnson highlighted the significance of making tax cuts permanent, as promised in 2017, while also discussing plans to eliminate overtime and tip taxes and provide additional relief for seniors on Social Security.

“This is a big deal. We cannot fail. It’s about doing what’s right for the American people,” he concluded.
