On Wednesday’s New York PIX11 “PIX11 News at 5” broadcast, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (Democratic) responded to the attack on two New York police officers, saying, “Immigrants who are breaking the law… “We need to do that.” Reconsidering laws that don’t allow people to be deported because they commit acts of violence. We cannot create an atmosphere that invites violence into our cities. ”
asked co-host Cori Chambers.[W]What should New Yorkers make of the fact that most of the people involved in this attack were immigrants? ”
Adams replied: “Well, listen, I say it again and again, the central government has to do its job. This is not a responsibility that should be placed in the laps of all these big cities. We see what’s happening in Chicago, Denver, and Boston. Across our country, big cities have to do the job of national government. And they’re here because they want to be part of the American dream. I mean, we say yes to that. But people who are violating our laws, we’re going to reinstate laws that don’t allow them to be deported because they’re committing acts of violence. We need to think about it. We cannot create an atmosphere that brings violence into our cities. But with an overwhelming number of immigrants and asylum seekers waiting for work permits and their commitments, we must We need to make that clear.”
