Sen. Ed Markey’s Remarks on Trump
During an appearance on MSNBC’s “All In” on Thursday, Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) referred to President Donald Trump as a “dictator” while commenting on the administration’s stance regarding Harvard University.
When questioned about the Trump administration’s comments on registering international students at Harvard, Markey described the situation as “authoritarianism on steroids,” characterizing it as an attempt to intimidate universities nationwide.
He elaborated, stating, “This is part of the authoritarian playbook that Trump has been attempting to enact since January 20th. The real problem—what he’s facing—is that the US Constitution mandates legitimate accusations related to claims he makes about immigration laws and students. These protections will ultimately prevail in court, but the intent is clearly to instill fear in academic institutions across the country.”
Markey added, “That’s why we must resist this dictator every day as he seeks to undermine the foundations of our constitutional government.”
