We Should ‘Encourage’ Government Agencies to Defy Trump DEI Order

On Wednesday's broadcast of MSNBC's “The Andrea Mitchell Report,” Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) challenged government agencies to increase diversity, equity and “We need to continue to encourage” greater DEI efforts, he said. President Donald Trump opposes this.

Moderator Andrea Mitchell said, “I want to ask you about the DEI decision, which seems to affect everyone in government, and by implication, the wording of this decision is very important to universities and corporations. It seems to be a directive to companies all over the country. ”

Durbin replied: This is intended to thwart efforts to bring more diversity to the leadership of businesses and government agencies. I happen to think that diversity is America's strength. Clearly, the Trump administration sees it just the opposite. Either way, we need to continue to encourage individuals, institutions and businesses to do the right thing. ”
