The incoming administration will “work to make American government work again,” Russ Vought, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for the Office of Management and Budget, said in his opening statement before the committee Wednesday.
He said the support and love from his family “beyond my eagerness to be by President Trump's side are the main reasons why I feel returning to OMB is the right effort at the right time.”
“I am deeply honored to have been nominated by President Trump for the second time to lead the Office of Management and Budget. He has promised the American people a federal government that works for all Americans, not the interests of bureaucrats and stereotypes. I did,” he began.
“Getting a head start on delivering on that important promise while serving as deputy director and director at OMB was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” he said. “We are driven by our dedication to taxpayers and their families,” he told lawmakers. ”
He spoke briefly about his upbringing as the son of an electrician and a schoolteacher, saying, “I saw firsthand the sacrifices my parents made to balance the household budget and save for the future.”
“These are reminders of the burden that government spending can place on ordinary Americans. My parents and countless others like them are the standard by which I evaluate policy and spending decisions. It has become,” he said.
Shockingly, Vought said, most Americans (nearly 80 percent) are not confident that their children will have a better life than they did, and that percentage has doubled in the past 20 years. He pointed out that there was.
“When we look at government waste and international debt, we know we are worried about our daughters' futures. Almost half of our countrymen expect their standard of living to be lower than their parents,” he said. “This is an important part of understanding overwhelming victory.”
“I want to re-commit to the federal government’s commitment to working as hard as people like my parents did.” [at] OMB,” he said, explaining that its mission “goes beyond presidential budgeting.”
It involves managing the federal government, reforming regulations, and coordinating policies across government agencies to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the will of the American people as expressed by both the legislative and executive branch representatives. Strong interagency processes ensure the best possible outcomes for all Americans. And I, at OMB, believe that a collaborative spirit is the key to achieving these results. OMB's public servants are some of the most resourceful and innovative people I have ever worked with. It was a pleasure to work with them.
Ultimately, Vought said he looked forward to leading the OMB team “to get America's government working again,” and stressed the need to spend taxpayer dollars “wisely.”
“The average American household has lost approximately $2,000 in purchasing power since January 2021 as Americans are taxed twice due to inflation caused by irresponsible federal spending,” he said. said.
“This country's forgotten men and women, the people who work hard every day in our nation's cities and towns, deserve a government that gives them the power to achieve their dreams,” Vaught continued, adding that OMB I realized that it is not a formal term.
“If confirmed, I will continue to serve and strive to keep their best interests at the center of my heart and ensure that every decision I make contributes to a more prosperous future for all Americans,” he vowed.
In his November announcement, Trump described Vought as someone who “knows exactly how to dismantle the deep state and end weaponized government.”
“And he will help us restore autonomy to the people,” he continued. “We will restore the nation's fiscal health and unleash Americans to new levels of prosperity and ingenuity.”
