We won't let you ruin our city.

New York Mayor Eric Adams has issued a stern warning to protesters, emphasizing that law enforcement “will not allow you to destroy our city” after over 80 arrests took place in Manhattan on Tuesday.

He stated that Commissioner Jessica Tisch had communicated a clear message: peaceful protests are acceptable, but they should not result in destruction or endanger innocent people.

Recently, anti-ICE protests originating from Los Angeles have gained significant attention and have spread to other cities. In New York, the NYPD arrested at least 80 individuals in Lower Manhattan for allegedly throwing metal trash cans at federal immigration vans and blocking building entrances.

Adams also remarked on the presence of individuals who travel across the country to instigate chaos, referencing groups like Antifa, stating that their aim is to create disturbances, particularly for law enforcement.

Commissioner Tisch echoed Adams’ sentiments during a statement on Wednesday morning, reaffirming the importance of maintaining the right to peaceful protest while making it clear that violence or disruption would not be tolerated. “We intervened quickly when we observed unlawful behavior,” she stated.

Furthermore, Adams mentioned that police officers tasked with ensuring public safety will undergo extensive training. “Despite some criticism of these units and the resources they require, we need to focus on our mission and ignore the distractions,” he explained.
