On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said Israel is “always” expected to “act in ways that other countries would never act.” And if the United States had faced the same level of hostility as Israel, we wouldn’t have let it go on for nearly 20 years. “We would have immediately exterminated the people who did it.” Told. He added that Israel “landed in search of peace, but they didn’t get it. Since then, they’ve been bombarded with rocket attacks and just lived with it.”
President of King’s College, University of Cambridge; financial times Columnist Gillian Tett said people need to break away from the idea of geopolitical issues as sporting events, where one side wins by hurting the other.
Maher replied: “Yes, but the problem is that we always expect Israel to behave in ways that no other country would ever behave in. They returned Gaza in 2005. They landed in search of peace. But it didn’t bring them peace. Since then, they’ve been bombarded by rockets and just lived with it. What other country would do that? Would we leave it alone for 20 years? No, we would have immediately wiped out the people who did it.”
