Protests in NYC Linked to Pro-China Groups Ahead of May Day
Two leftist organizations, receiving funding from pro-Chinese Communist Party tech billionaires, reportedly played a role in organizing a protest in New York City’s Union Square leading up to the Communist-Socialist May Day event on Friday.
The People’s Forum (TPF) and the Party of Socialism and Liberation (PSL) were mentioned in a report indicating they benefitted from financial support linked to Neville Roy Singham, according to FOX News.
A spokesperson for the PSL took the microphone at the event, identifying himself as the voice of the People’s Forum. He energized the crowd, leading them in chants and criticizing capitalism. Just before this, the PSL arrived with numerous anti-Trump signs and supplies from a van parked nearby. Pro-communist supporters distributed newspapers and rallied attendees for future events.
As the protest unfolded, union members gathered in Washington Square Park while TPF and PSL marched a short distance away from Union Square. The union rally appeared to conclude shortly after Singham’s group arrived, as per the report.
Breitbart News noted that Singham’s wife, Jodi Evans, co-founded the leftist group Code Pink. Chinese governmental records reviewed by the Breitbart News Foundation also indicate Singham’s significant connections to the Chinese regime.
Over the years, both the People’s Forum and Code Pink have received substantial funding. These groups have been at the forefront of pro-Hamas and anti-Israel demonstrations on U.S. college campuses following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Mayor Zoran Mamdani, who identifies as a democratic socialist, addressed the attendees at the Washington Square Park rally, stating, “We’re working to tax the wealthiest, most profitable corporations in New York City.”
According to FOX, a communist newspaper distributed at the gathering asserted, “The existing capitalist-imperialist system and government institutions in this country must be abolished and dismantled, and replaced with a new socialist system based on the Constitution for a new socialist republic of America.”
Approximately 600 groups, including various communist and Democratic affiliates, joined forces nationwide to participate in May Day activities this Friday. A Fox News article highlighted the influence of Singham in these protests.
Mr. Singham has emerged as a significant figure in the protest ecosystem, which increasingly overlaps with Democratic Party initiatives. Investigations reveal that Singham has directed around $278 million toward organizations spearheading divisive street movements across the U.S., including May Day protests. His funded outlet, Breakthrough News, echoes his sentiments, referencing his support for the Chinese Communist Party’s ideals.
Moreover, communists and socialists from various corners of the globe were also part of the May Day celebrations. Notably, North Korea’s May Day events were marked by mandatory public displays of loyalty to the Kim dynasty and its strict ideology, as reported.
