Weeks after hosting ritzy fundraiser for Biden, George Clooney calls for his replacement: ‘It’s devastating to say it’

Hollywood actor George Clooney has called for President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race, just weeks after standing next to him at a $1 million campaign fundraiser in California.

Clooney wrote Wednesday that he loves and respects Biden, but that Democrats would lose the election if the 81-year-old insists on remaining in the race.

“The only battle he can’t win is the battle against time.”

“I love Joe Biden — as a senator, as vice president and as president. I consider him a friend and I trust him. I have confidence in his character and his morals. And over the last four years he has won many of the battles he has faced,” Clooney said. I have written Published in the New York Times.

“But the one battle he can’t win is the battle against time. No one can win that. It’s heartbreaking to say this, but the Joe Biden I was with at a fundraiser three weeks ago was not the ‘big’ Joe Biden of 2010. He’s not even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same person we all witnessed at the debates.”

Jon Favreau, speechwriter for former President Obama Said CNN reported that Clooney was at the same Biden fundraiser and “everyone who spoke at the event was thinking the same thing.”

“I was there and Clooney was right,” he added.

Political strategist David Axelrod called the op-ed “devastating” and “influential.”

“Is it messy? Yes. Democracy is messy.”

Clooney also addressed opponents who say Biden’s withdrawal would be too complicated and confusing.

“Will there be chaos? Yes, democracy is chaos. But will it reinvigorate the party and awaken voters who were already disengaged long before the June debate? Absolutely,” Clooney continued.

“The short time until election day would be to our advantage, not our danger,” he added. “It would give us the chance to chart our course without the opposition polls and negative campaigning that come with a lengthy and costly election season.”

Election officials Responded In response to Clooney’s op-ed, suggesting Biden has greater stamina than Clooney, Clooney told CNN that Biden left a fundraiser three hours early.

“Okay,” Jake Tapper replied sarcastically.
