President Randy Weingarten of the American Federation of Teachers said she was “angry” about the Department of Education's cuts in staffing delivery, describing it as “an innards of a thousand cuts.”
“So what it does is that it evaluates the arena, so that all the kids will have the opportunity, and that's what they're cutting back and when they cut half of the people, it's like an internal organ by a thousand cuts,” Weingarten said he lists the duties of the Department of Education.
The Ministry of Education announced Tuesday that it would reduce its employees from around 4,133 to around 2,183 employees. The remaining workers affected by the cuts will be on administrative leave starting March 21st.
“I'm so angry. I'm getting mad about this because I'm hurting people who can't vote, so kids don't vote. Let's not take away the opportunity,” she continued.

Secretary McMahon details Trump, who is preparing to abolish the education sector, will promote school choices.
“What they did yesterday was coronavirus. Fight against 65% of Americans who believe they need the education sector,” she said earlier in the discussion. “The fact is that education is done at the local level. The state government, the state education department, the local board of education. That's the person who is educating. And we want that. But this is what the Federal Department of Education does. It's an opportunity agent. It's an equalizer.”
She said she is helping the department acquire student occupational therapists, Pelgrants and others who help provide children with reading specialists on specific disabilities.
“I think every child should play sports. Every child has experiential learning and the equipment to do that, and I can go again and again,” she continued.

McMahon said the decision was part of the president's mission.
“Obviously his direction to me is to close the Department of Education, and I know that we have to work with Congress to achieve that,” she said.
