Thomas Powers’ Journey of Identity and Transition
Thomas “Nieza” Powers, whose real name is Thomas Ryan Powers, is a social media influencer and ex-athlete. He identifies as transgender and lived as a woman named Nicole for over ten years before making his public transition in mid-2025.
Powers garnered a significant online following by sharing his narrative of identifying as a lesbian, transitioning, competing in women’s sports, coming to terms with his biological sex, and opposing the inclusion of men in women’s spaces. His journey also included a profound Christian conversion that drew him toward Catholicism.
However, just recently, he announced yet another transition.
In a statement on Instagram, he expressed, “The self-hatred I’ve felt for the past eight months has been unbearable. You might think this is about your sins, but that’s not the case… I believe in the Bible and in the Lord Jesus. My focus is on serving Him rather than hating myself. My heart is in a better place as a partner for Charlotte, free from self-hate and without forcing an identity on myself. This year, I’m also better equipped to serve my community.”
Blaze TV host Allie Beth Stuckey commented on Powers’ situation, hinting that his primary motivation could stem more from a desire for attention than from a quest for “credibility.”
On her show “Relatable,” Allie examines Powers’ complex history, suggesting that his public persona and overall narrative—from his initial transition to detransition—was likely a strategic maneuver to amass a large following and monetize the attention.
One early concern for Allie was that Thomas first shared his “retransition” news as a “trial reel” on Instagram, which is a feature meant for creators to gauge content popularity among non-followers. “Interestingly, he didn’t initially inform his followers about this supposed ‘re-transition,’ which makes me think he’s peddling two different narratives,” she remarked.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg regarding Powers’ questionable claims.
Allie noted that inconsistencies emerged in his story, including discrepancies related to the timeline of events, his relationship with his girlfriend, and even details about his age. Internet sleuths had dug up old photos that seemed to contradict many of the assertions Powers made about himself.
Christian news outlet Protesia published a detailed analysis, revealing that public records indicate Powers was born in 1989, making him 36 years old—contrary to his claims of being in his 20s. He also stated that he began taking puberty blockers at 16 and transitioned as a teenager, but evidence suggested he did so much later, nearing 30. The report indicated deliberate fabrications or serious misrepresentations in key aspects of his narrative, particularly regarding his relationship with Charlotte.
Allie remarked, “I’m not sure if this individual even believes they’re a woman or what direction they’re trying to take. There seems to be something unsettling at play. It’s both troubling and likely unstable. The greater issue for me is that he appears to be a pathological liar who crafted a false identity to garner a following.”
Nonetheless, she added, “That doesn’t lessen my empathy for him; loss is loss. Whether one is a man convinced he’s a woman or a person orchestrating a fraud, confusion exists. The prayer remains the same. We pray for him.”
