Rep. Jamie Ruskin (D-MD) said on Monday in CNN's “arena” that Democrats are in the life battle of “ignoring the cavaliers” of President Donald Trump's constitution and the rule of law.
Host Casey Hunt said, “The reporter's incredible explanation in the Atlantic was accidentally added to a signaling group chat where national security authorities are planning a military strike in Yemen. It's more than just a fascinating story. A serious failure. This article has serious legal consequences for all of these national security officials.”
She asked, “Did this group chat break the law?”
“It definitely was, and it reflects the general sloppiness and negligence in the administration's overall approach. As they began here, they were dumped more than 40 times by federal courts with temporary restraint or provisional injunctions,” Ruskin said.
He continued, “And the example you are pointing out is clearly in regard to the operational implementation of some plans. But when you look at what the underlying plans are, it is Congress that declares a war on Venezuela or Yemen. It is not the President of the United States. It stands for law.”
Ruskin added: “Our democracy is under siege and, as we have seen, dozens of actions by the Trump administration have been shattered in federal courts as violations of the constitution and the rule of law.”
He concluded, “We are in the battle for our lives now.”
