In an interview with Boston Public Radio on Tuesday, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said the city is releasing people they wanted with the ice because “the ice has not chosen to get these criminal warrants.” And “It was very dangerous and a threat to the community. Still, if they believed it was true, they weren't taking action to reflect what they should do.”
Wu said, “[A]The NY agency that obtains a judicial warrant, a criminal warrant signed by a judge who has checked the probable cause and went through the process under the legal system, Boston Police must execute it. And we do so every day whether it's a warrant from out of state for someone who might be asked to commit serious crimes elsewhere, or even abroad. ”
She added: And what they say is, oh, yes, it was so dangerous and a threat to the community. Still, they are not taking action that reflects what they should be doing if they believed it was true. They waited until then, but we had to arrest this person separately. And because it's not usually Boston police.
Wu also said the city is under a court ruling.
