During the 2024 campaign, the West Virginia Mountaineers football program will honor the state’s rich coal heritage and donate money to active miners who work hard every day. They will debut an alternate black “Coal Rush” uniform meant to show respect. Feel the energy, beautiful people.
At this year’s annual Gold-Blue Spring Game, the Mountaineers unveiled brand new blue, gold and white uniforms. The “Coal Rush” uniform is intended to be an addition to WVU that will be displayed on special occasions. The idea for the black alternate uniforms came from the team spending a day with real miners. “Our staff did a great job last week designing and rolling out traditional uniforms. However, we have prepared an alternative for our student-athletes to have fun and connect with the people of West Virginia. “We wanted to do that,” said Len Baker, vice president and director of athletics at West Virginia University. weboy.
“If our football team was going to wear a black alternate uniform, we wanted it to tell a story and mean something to our fans. Every design element of the uniform was created by our designers It was researched, carefully thought out and implemented based on what we observed during our visit.”
