Bradley Whitford Reflects on His Father’s Legacy on “The View”

Actor Bradley Whitford appeared on “The View,” where he shared a poignant reflection about his father, who was a World War II veteran and, as Whitford described, an “Antifa” fighter against rising fascism. He was in agreement with co-host Joy Behar, who poignantly characterized the current situation as “disgraceful.”

“I live in a world where there are concentration camps,” Whitford expressed. “In my community, people are taken away while they’re legally seeking asylum. What’s truly upsetting is that we’re giving these places funny names. It’s as if there’s a strange humor in this inhumanity. These are bizarre times for me,” he added, resonating with the overall grim atmosphere.

Whitford reminisced about his father, who, he noted, would be over a hundred years old if he were alive today. He recalled how his dad fought during World War II, serving on a minesweeper that was under threat from torpedoes.

Behar chimed in, confirming, “He was Antifa.” Whitford nodded in agreement, emphasizing, “Yes, yes.” The term “Antifa” refers to a far-left activist group that labels itself as “anti-fascist” and has often been mobilized during protests and riots, particularly noted during the national unrest in 2020. Former President Trump labeled Antifa a “domestic terrorist organization,” claiming it posed a serious threat to the government and the rule of law.

Whitford continued by sharing a bit about his father’s life, noting he wasn’t particularly political. He worked in insurance but also served as president of a family planning organization in Madison, Wisconsin. It was, he explained, out of love for his family and a belief in accessible healthcare for women—issues that mattered to him personally.

He then shifted focus to the controversial Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. “There are 64,000 pregnant rape victims in states lacking abortion access,” he said firmly. “If you don’t think abortion care is medical care, you’re insane.”

In a previous interview, Whitford had expressed his hope for Jeff Bezos to take a stand against Trump, calling for more vocal opposition to the former president’s policies.
