We’ve Got to Put Decency Above Politics

CNN commentator Adam Kinzinger said on “The Newsroom” Wednesday that he supported President Joe Biden over former President Donald Trump because he hoped voters would prioritize civility over political differences.

“I think it’s really important that especially what I’d call 20 percent of Haley’s supporters understand that this is a tough choice. This isn’t just about who you agree with on certain issues — in fact, I’m not even sure where Donald Trump stands on a lot of issues — but this is about whether democracy is going to survive in the form that we love, or not? Are we going to continue to shift these standards? I survived January 6th. I didn’t watch it on TV. I was there, but I have a 2-and-a-half-year-old child. I don’t want my child to grow up in a country where it’s okay for things like that to happen. So for me, civility probably has to come before political differences.”

He added: “As I said, I want my son, Christian, to grow up in a country where people still respect the person who holds the highest office in the land for behaving in a respectable manner. Our president is a wimpy, whining victim so he continues to attack those below him.”
