What Angel Reese’s injury means for her Unrivaled league status

Angel Reese said she is hoping for a “big comeback” after suffering a season-ending wrist injury in the Sky's 92-78 win over the Sparks on Friday.

The Sky rookie underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a fractured left wrist, the team announced, adding that he is making good progress in his recovery and will begin rehabilitation in the coming weeks.

Reese will miss the remainder of the 2024 WNBA season but is set to play in the Unrivaled League, a new 3-on-3 league started by the Liberty's Breanna Stewart and the Lynx's Napheesa Collier.

“Unrivaled,” which will take place in Miami during the WNBA offseason, will begin in January 2025 and run through March.

Reese said in an Instagram post announcing his season-ending injury. Written“Please continue to watch me as the best cheerleader on the sidelines! And see you again in the Invincible League!”

Reese also referenced “Unrivaled” while discussing his injury in a TikTok video on Sunday.

“You'll have a hard cast for four weeks, then a soft cast that's removable for two weeks, and then you're back in,” Rees says, “so in six weeks you're back doing what you love and living your normal life.”

“…So in the meantime, I’ll be in a cast for four weeks…During that time, I’ll be lifting weights, running, conditioning, shooting with my non-dominant hand, dribbling, working with my non-dominant hand, nutrition, etc.

“… Of course I wanted more, but God's timing isn't always my timing, so I have to understand that. That's why I'm so energized. I've been through this, I've been through so much, literally from little things to giant things.”

“I'm looking forward to seeing this little setback lead to a big comeback. Year 2 is going to be a scary time. That last bucket is crazy.” [of my rookie year] Going into our second year, even going into the Unrivaled League, we knew we were going to finish third.”

The lease is by Henri Barred Player roster.

The former NCAA champion at Louisiana State University, who averaged a double-double in her WNBA rookie season, announced her commitment to Unrivaled in July.

Reese posted a photo on Tuesday of her smiling face and giving a thumbs up with her arm in a cast.

Reese averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game during his rookie season.

Reese, along with Fever rookie Kaitlyn Clark, are the only rookies selected to the 2024 WNBA All-Star team.

The Sky (13-22) will try to defend the WNBA's final playoff spot when they host the Mystics (11-24) in Chicago on Wednesday.
