Caitlin Clark Reflects on Past Season and Recovery Journey

Caitlin Clark had a unique perspective on the game last season due to her injuries.

Her 2025 season was severely affected by a groin issue late in the year, limiting her to only 13 games and forcing her to miss crucial moments, like Game 5 of the semifinals against the Aces, who ultimately took the championship in Las Vegas.

Clark, who regained her enthusiasm during training camp, opened up about the difficulties she faced this past season.

“It’s really challenging and lonely coming to practice daily, spending hours in therapy and rehab. Then you have to step up and be the best teammate possible,” she shared.

“I’ve learned a lot about what teammates can achieve when they’re not on the court, and I became their biggest fan,” she noted. “It was a valuable experience since, for much of my career, I’ve been the one receiving support. That’s not to say I wasn’t cheering for my teammates; I often played the most minutes. When you’re on the sidelines, you have to find alternative ways to contribute.”

Last season, Clark’s scoring average dipped to 16.5 points per game, down from 19.4 during her standout Rookie of the Year campaign in 2024. However, her assists saw an increase from 8.4 to 8.8, while her turnovers improved from 5.6 to 5.1.

As she enters her third year in the WNBA, Clark has diligently focused on her rehabilitation in preparation for the 2026 season, asserting that she feels fully recovered.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing pickup games and performing live. Skill training can become monotonous, and I crave the competitiveness,” she reflected. “I’m someone who wants to make every rep count. Competing remains a constant for me, but being smarter about my body and understanding its needs is crucial—especially during those demanding camp days.”

With Clark and the Fever recently re-signing star center Aliyah Boston, they are poised to be a formidable team in the WNBA this season.
