What Christian Scott’s dad was thinking during son’s impressive Mets debut

Christian Scott was in trouble in the first inning of his major league debut, but his father was confident he would come out of it.

The Mets’ promising pitcher allowed three hits and one run to the first three Tampa Bay Rays batters he faced, but finished the inning without causing any further damage.

The only run the 24-year-old gave up turned out to be a gem of a 6 sq/3 inning Saturday night at Tropicana Field.

Unfortunately for Scott, he was tied at 1-1 against the Rays when he left the game, so he will receive a no-decision.

Scott’s father, Doug, was in the front row watching his son’s MLB debut and said he was “a little nervous” but wasn’t surprised that his son got out of trouble in the first inning.

“He has a knack for getting out of things,” Dave told Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal during the game. “The last few games, his first innings in Triple-A, he came back and retired a lot, so I wasn’t surprised by the way he settled in.”

“When I told my son the news that Christian was going to the big leagues, I screamed and cried with him,” said Dave, who said the young right-hander has always shown calm throughout various levels of his baseball career.

“He has played at a high level in high school, college and even travel and showcase ball,” Dave said. ”
