National Security Advisor Mike Waltz was scrutinized after the editors of Atlantic Jeffrey Goldberg misinformed a high-level signal group chat discussing a war plan against Yemen's Hoosies.
National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes told Atlantic Monday that the group chat appears to be authentic.
In an interview with Fox News, Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), chairman of the Senate Intelligence Email Committee, told Fox News that the app was adopted by the Biden administration as a form of communication.
“We understand that the Biden administration has approved the signal as a means of communication consistent with the administration's president's recordkeeping requirements and has continued to the Trump administration,” Cotton explained in Fox News.

“This is another messaging app, like the iMessage app on your iPhone or the email server on a server set up by all admins.
“When it comes to keeping things secret, this is the problem. It's a long-standing problem. It's been around for centuries,” Matthew Peterson of Blaze News Tonight tells Jill Savage. “But you're seeing it in America today with technology.”
“First, everything is categorized. So, they classify everything, so it applies certain rules. The other issue is to have all the rules and regulations and official government communication.
“So, we want government officials to work together efficiently, but it's a problem when they talk about certain things on Slack channels and signal channels. So, realize that the issues are very human and realistic. We need a way for people to communicate informally.”
